X-rays are a type of radiation that can pass through solid objects or be absorbed by them. Dense items, such as bones and teeth, absorb this energy and appear as light-colored patches on X-rays. These rays travel through less thick materials like gums and cheeks and appear on X-ray film as dark regions.
